PURPOSE OF THE JOB


Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Marketing & Communications will play a critical leadership role in defining Human Rights First (HRF) and the American human rights movement for the next generation. In partnership with the CEO, executive team, and board of directors, they will help craft and refine the organizations core message and messaging for the organizations campaigns and initiatives, redefine and manage the brand, dramatically elevate HRFs profile, plan, and lead marketing efforts,  and supervise the communications team. As a senior leader in the organization, the SVP of Marketing & Communications will be a key partner to the CEO and COO in defining and refining the organizations core strategy and future direction.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Develops and leads implementation of a comprehensive and integrated communication and marketing plan that drives organization mission and increases brand awareness

  • Set current and long-term goals for internal teams

  • Lead the design, creation, and distribution of marketing literature, publications, press releases, and various promotional materials

  • Develop and track the Marketing/Communications department budget

  • Strong emphasis on developing and implementing social media and low-cost but high-impact digital strategies that drive awareness, lead-generation, volunteer recognition, and donations

  • Build relationships with media and stakeholders through creative PR strategies

  • Monitor all marketing and communications campaigns and improve them when necessary

  • Prioritize marketing and communications projects and allocate resources accordingly



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE



  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic marketing and



communications, media relations, and marketing programs to advance an organizations mission and goals



  • Minimum ten years experience in a senior management role, either in-house or with an agency

  • A minimum of ten years experience in planning, writing, editing, and producing newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, and other publications

  • Ability to communicate HRFs mission to various audiences to advance HRFs objectives

  • A minimum of five years experience in developing and implementing social media strategies

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, communications, or related field is required, advanced degree is



preferred



  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top-tier partners, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve national recognition

  • Innovative thinker with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output

  • Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of marketing and communications specialists

  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution

  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers

  • Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs

  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives

  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, HRFs board of directors, and staff

  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker



Other: The scope of the job frequently requires attendance at evening and/or weekend activities, meetings, and events, and the ability to travel as needed
