The Opportunity


 


We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced marketing professional to manage our Strain product lines that are a vital part of our static testing solutions. Strain instruments are used to measure the elongation of test specimens subjected to uniaxial tensile or compression loading. The product family is comprised of manual and automatic contacting instruments as well as automatic, non-contacting video extensometers. The primary responsibility is to develop and execute a global product strategy that ensures sustainable differentiation for future business and maintains a balanced portfolio of investments in core strain solutions that generate growth in our key market segments. 


 


The product manager works closely with cross functional teams throughout the product development and lifecycle process, developing and implementing marketing plans to meet bookings alongside profit targets for our strain product lines. An intimate knowledge of customer and applications knowledge is required and gained via personal testing experience and direct customer exploration. The Product Manager is also responsible for providing regular communication, support and training to the global sales and service organizations, driving activities and decisions focusing on maintaining Instrons high level of customer satisfaction.  Travel amounts will vary and could involve anything from local day trips to 10-day international excursions.  Expect on the order of 15-25% travel.


 


Primary Responsibilities include:


 




  • Managing our static strain products through their life cycles



  • Driving solutions across development teams through market requirements, customer needs, product definition, and go to market activities



  • Developing and implementing a cohesive short and long term product line roadmap



  • Collecting and synthesizing customer insights, pain points and competitive intelligence through customer interviews, market research, and channel knowledge



  • Developing the core marketing messaging and positioning for the defined product line



  • Defining pricing and sales strategy/policies for the product line and driving these globally



  • Understanding the competitive landscape including competitive product and pricing strategies



  • Improving product profitability through cost reductions and recommending pricing adjustments



  • Responsible for providing and analyzing data on product volume and customer marketing information



  • Maximize effectiveness and efficiency in all aspects of product management and decision making




 


Requirements


 


Successful candidates will have a bachelors degree in a technical field such as any Engineering discipline or Materials Science and be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in marketing, product management and/or sales.  Additional requirements:


 




  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed



  • Must have a passion for technology and innovation



  • Excellent communications, interpersonal, and leadership skills



  • High level organizational skills to maximize self-productivity under pressure of deadlines and changing priorities



  • Have an understanding of customers buying cycle in the capital equipment market.
