Director, Development & Advisor Engagement


NPTs Director, Development & Advisor Engagement is responsible for planning and implementing fundraising programs, both short and long range, targeted toward existing markets.  The Director, Development & Advisor Engagement will manage a team of development specialists that contact bankers and financial advisors and other tax, legal and investment professionals through, but not limited to, phone calls, email, seminars and marketing campaigns to expand NPTs Development coverage leading to new donors and contributions   The Director, Development & Advisor Engagement will supplement and support the fundraising and business development activities of NPTs regional directors, with a focus on specific financial service partners and markets.  In coordination with NPTs Chief Development Officer and Managing Director, the Director, Development & Advisor Engagement will develop, implement, and monitor fundraising and activity goals.  They will collaborate with other NPT professionals, and it is essential that they have excellent communication skills and feel comfortable working in a cross-functional team environment. A successful individual should be a self-starter, entrepreneurial and solutions-oriented to achieve fundraising goals that meet the needs of our donors and their trusted advisors.

Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee outreach goals, activities, projects, resource planning, reporting, incentives and communications for the internal development team

  • Manage and motivate team to achieve fundraising goals

  • Supplement fundraising efforts as needed and provide back-up for both NPTs external regional directors and internal development specialists

  • Directs fundraising forecasting and activities and sets performance goals accordingly

  • Monitor, track and report on fundraising and activity milestones to ensure team goals are met or exceeded

  • Develop, execute and monitor project management tasks as assigned

  • Assist in defining and developing internal team projects and assignments and oversee their successful execution

  • Directs staffing, training, and performance evaluations of internal fundraising specialists

  • Research, develop and implement methods to increase financial advisor engagement and improvements in the fundraising process

  • Participate in client/financial advisor interactions to ensure cross-training, customer satisfaction and management involvement regularly

  • Serve with other departmental management to facilitate strong working relationships among members of these various departments in order to achieve NPTs goals and objectives

  • Collaborate with marketing, donor relations, donor administration and institutional services to facilitate new programs, messages, campaigns and offerings

  • Identify and execute new processes, tools, communications, training and methodologies to ensure the fundraising program's success both internally and across departments throughout the company

  • Develop and manage internal development operating budget

  • Analyze and control expenditures of division to conform to budgetary requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a business or technical discipline or equivalent experience in related field

  • 5 years progressive experience leading sales/fundraising team functions

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 8-10 years of proven track record of success in inside/outside sales, fundraising, and/or gift planning experience

  • Proven ability to effectively interface among management peers, internal workforce and external relationships.

  • Working knowledge of the financial services industry and investments

  • Proven work experience and supervisory skills as a fundraising/sales manager

  • Project management experience

  • Hands on experience with CRM software and MS Excel

  • In-depth understanding of the sales/fundraising administration process

  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational and team management skills

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Flexible, entrepreneurial and a problem-solving attitude

  • This position requires some travel to strategic markets, conferences, trade shows and financial service partner events
