HX5, in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center, is currently seeking a CFD Aeroelasticity Support Engineer. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:


 



  • Perform flow analyses with the TURBO code for full-wheel rotor and adjacent stator blade rows at specified operating conditions.

  • Perform unsteady full-annulus TURBO simulations with radial and circumferential inlet distortion to determine time-averaged propulsor performance characteristics.

  • Provide TURBO code CFD grids and solutions from which high fidelity aeroelastic analyses of aeropropulsion fans/propulsors can be performed to examine forced response and flutter.

  • Develop TURBO grid deformation inputs for blade vibration analyses.



 


Required Skills:



  • Experience in setting up and performing high-fidelity CFD-based analyses of aero engine fans/propulsors operating with radial inlet profiles and inlet distortion profiles.

  • Experience with the TURBO and/or TURBO-AE CFD codes for turbomachinery.

  • Experience with Boundary Layer Ingestion concepts and their effects on aero engines.

  • Experience with assessing the impact of inlet flow distortion on engine fan performance.

  • Experience with CFD grid deformation techniques.



 


Other Desired Skills:



  • Familiarity with CFD design techniques for aero engine component shape optimization.

  • Ability to work well in a team setting with research engineers making diverse technical contributions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical material.



 


Education/Experience:



  • B.S. (prefer M.S. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • 0-5 years of experience



 


*Must be a US Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.


**Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance for the position.
