HX5, in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center, is seeking an aerospace engineer for space mission system simulation design and analysis. The incumbent will work with a team of NASA civil servants and support contractors in the Mission Design and Architecture Branch to identify, develop, and analyze mission designs for space flight systems that use state-of-the-art and advanced propulsion systems. In particular, they will support the Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) mission design activities.  Deep knowledge and understanding of Kepler's equations is required as well as experience in modeling trajectories for space vehicle flight. Typical responsibilities will include trajectory and mission design and optimization; launch vehicle and in-space vehicle simulation; insight and V&V as required; and GN&C strategy and software development.  


Required Skills:


  • Orbital Dynamics and Space Mechanics

  • Orbital simulation, design, and optimization

  • Familiarity or experience with: Copernicus, STK, GMAT, EMTG, or the development of such tools needed for modeling a spacecraft trajectory

  • Familiarity or experience with any of: C/C++, Python, Matlab, Macintosh OS, Linux, Unix

  • Ability to synthesize analysis and results into presentations and technical papers


Other Desired Skills:


  • Familiarity with Python and knowledge of scripting languages in general

  • Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel




  • BS/MS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering

  • 2 to 5 years of experience
